Kelly Forbes is an artist unlike any other.
Driven by the desire for instant gratification, and inspired by a lifetime of horror movies - both classic and contemporary - Kelly draws upon some of the more iconic images in the genre to create stunning works of art. Whether attracted to his famous movie monsters, his Hammer Horror vamps, or his abstract ideals of the ultimate scary beast, fans of Kelly's work are scrambling to own a portrait of their very own. Some own several.
Each painting produced by the frantic strokes of his brushes is a One of a Kind, traveling from conception to completion in only a short period of time. Kelly states he is attracted to the kinetic feel of these images. As any artist will tell you, the movement of the brush on the canvas takes you into an entirely different world than you first imagined.
In addition to his recent frenzy of paintbrushes, Kelly has been busy with illustrations and artwork for 2 upcoming publications - Issue #2 and Issue #4 of Doorways Magazine, and a comic book adaptation of Greg Lamberson's new novel "Johnny Gruesome". These pieces supplement his growing gallery of illustrative work - creatures brought to life from the depths of a truly demented mind. Each piece is old school - there is no computer digitization or enhancement done - all illustrations are from pencil to paper.
In his own words about the inspiration for his work, Kelly says he creates other world’s because he’s never been good at doing anything in the one he’s in.
While Horror is his passion, Kelly's talents have useful in his own established business - 4 Bz Signs and Designs in Bowmanville, Ontario - creating corporate identities through advertising design.
Each of Kelly's works is (or was) available for sale, and a demand has been created among the denizens of the ever growing horror community. News on recent completions and upcoming projects spreads throughout the Rue Mortuary - the official forums of Rue Morgue Magazine. Watch for Kelly's future appearances for your chance to own a piece of his horror, including the 2007 Festival of Fear in Toronto.
